BSAK Art Club presents: Artist Talk with Esma & Murat Ertel from BaBa ZuLa

We are very excited to welcome Esma Ertel & Murat Ertel from the legendary music group BaBa ZuLa for an artist talk and vinyl signing on January 31 at LE FLANEUR Amsterdam . Emerging from Istanbul’s vibrant underground scene, BaBa ZuLa has left an undeniable mark on Turkish psychedelic music. Known for their mastery of improvisation and experimental sound, the group blends traditional Anatolian melodies with contemporary, analog, and psychedelic elements. As true pioneers, BaBa ZuLa has inspired countless artists and carried the sound of Istanbul — where East and West coexist — to stages across the world. "Their ritual like performances are a mixture of disciplines of art, often featuring belly dancers, elaborate costumes, poetry and theatre delivering viewers a tantalizing audio-visual feast. The unique electric saz designed specially by Ertel himself together with a wooden spoon can serve as musical compass to Turkish musical roots going as far back as pre-Islamic, shamanic times, through Anatolia and silk and spice road culture and legends reaches all the way up to present-day İstanbul to the future." This October, BaBa ZuLa will embark on their 30th anniversary tour , including a stop in the Netherlands. We are thrilled to host a conversation around the upcoming tour, the artistic practice of Esma and Murat Ertel as a duo, and the upcoming documentary Zen .
